President Erdoğan extended the term of office of Chief of General Staff General Yaşar Güler by one year.
The meeting of the Supreme Military Council (YAS), chaired by Erdoğan, ended. The closed-door meeting at the Presidential Complex lasted about 1 hour.
After the meeting, the decisions of the Supreme Military Council were announced. Accordingly, Naval Forces Commander Admiral Adnan Özbal and Air Force Commander General Hasan Küçükakyüz were retired due to lack of staff.
In the Supreme Military Council, effective from 30 August 2022, 16 generals and admirals were promoted to a higher rank, and 47 colonels were promoted to generals and admirals.
The Commander of the Navy, Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, was appointed to the Naval Forces Command, and the Combatant Air Force Commander, General Atilla Gülan, to the Air Force Command.
Presidency Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın said in a statement after the meeting, “The terms of office of 40 generals and admirals were extended for one year, and the terms of office of 313 colonels were extended for 2 years. 38 generals and admirals were retired due to lack of staff. The number of generals and admirals, which is currently 264, has increased to 273.” said.
