Harvest of alternative feed triticale has begun

Harvesting of triticale, which is obtained from a hybrid of wheat and rye and grown as an alternative product to close the roughage deficit, has begun in Sivas.

Sivas Governor Yılmaz Şimşek, who participated in the triticale harvest held in Sivas Ulaş Agricultural Enterprise affiliated to the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TİGEM), stated that the enterprise is one of the largest public agricultural enterprises in the country.

Emphasizing that Ulaş TİGEM has approximately 71 thousand decares of land, Şimşek said, “There is plant and animal production here. Kangal Akkaraman sheep production and Kangal dog production come to the fore in animal production. Forage crops are also special in plant production.” used his statements.

Drawing attention to the importance of triticale used as a forage plant, Şimşek said, “Ulaş TİGEM meets approximately 50 percent of Turkey’s seed triticale need. Our aim is to meet all of them. We aim to produce more efficient forage crops and thus increase the quality in the agricultural sector.” used his statements.

It was stated that a yield of 4 thousand 250 tons is expected from the triticale planted on 18 thousand decares of land in Ulaş TİGEM.
