Mexican Boxer Alvarez becomes ‘undisputed’ World Super Middleweight Champion with 4th belt

Mexican Boxer Saul Canelo Alvarez defeated Caleb Plant by knockout in the World Super Middleweight title match to become the first “undisputed” World Super Middleweight Champion in history.

In the match held in Las Vegas, USA, 31-year-old Alvarez won his 4th belt by defeating his US opponent in the 11th round.

Alvarez added the International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt alongside the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) belts to become the “undisputed” World Super Middleweight Champion.

Alvarez knocked his opponent Plant down twice in the 11th round, first with a left hook, then a right uppercut.

Plant stood up, but the blows took effect; Alvarez attacked again with one minute and five seconds left in the round.

Making a statement after the fight, Alvarez said, “Plant wanted to continue, but I told him there was nothing to be ashamed of. Of course, I went to the top.” “Caleb is a good boxer. He was a very talented, tough opponent. I respect him,” said Alvarez.

Alvarez is the first Mexican and the 6th boxer to win all four titles since the WBO began sanctioning world title fights for separate governing bodies in 1988 to win all four titles at once.
