Ready-to-wear and apparel sector, with an export of 12.4 billion dollars in January-July 2022, signed the highest January-July exports of all time.
According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkey’s exports increased by 13.4 percent in July compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 18.5 billion dollars.
In the January-July period of this year, exports increased by 19.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 144.4 billion dollars. Annualized export value exceeded 248 billion dollars.
The ready-to-wear and apparel industry, which made an export of 1 billion 692 million dollars in July 2021, also realized an export of 1 billion 622 million dollars with a decrease of 4.1 percent in the same period of this year.
In January-July 2022, the ready-made clothing and apparel industry realized an export of 12 billion 411 million dollars with an increase of 11.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Thus, the sector reached the highest January-July exports of all time.
A portion of 1.1 billion dollars of the sector’s exports last month was made from Istanbul. Bursa followed Istanbul with 137 million dollars and İzmir with 118 million dollars. Of the 12.4 billion dollar export of the sector in the January-July period of this year, 8.5 billion dollars came from Istanbul, 1 billion dollars from Bursa and 890 million dollars from İzmir.
The sector made the highest export sales to Germany in 7 months.
Last month, the country with the highest exports in the ready-made clothing and apparel sector was Germany with 307 million dollars. Germany was followed by Spain with $221 million and the United Kingdom with $166 million. In the January-July period, the sector exported 2.2 billion dollars to Germany, 1.5 billion dollars to Spain and 1.2 billion dollars to the United Kingdom.
Looking at the country groups to which the most exports were made last month in the sector, EU countries ranked first with 1 billion dollars, other European countries with 209 million dollars, and Commonwealth of Independent States countries with 112.9 billion dollars.
When we look at the exports made to the mentioned country groups in 7 months, it is seen that the exports to EU countries are 7.7 billion dollars, 1.6 billion dollars to other European countries and 965 billion dollars to the Middle East countries.
According to TIM data, the sector, which exported to 176 countries and regions last month, had a share of 8.7 percent in the country’s total exports in the same period. Exporting to 212 countries and regions in the 7 months of this year, the sector had a share of 8.6 percent in the country’s total exports.
