The Constitutional Court decided to cancel the Price Stabilization Committee

The Constitutional Court (AYM), upon the CHP’s application, decided to cancel the Presidential Decree on the Price Stability Committee with a majority of votes.

According to the decision in today’s issue of the Official Gazette, the Supreme Court discussed the CHP’s application for the annulment of the Presidential Decree on the Price Stability Committee.

The court examined the CHP’s grounds for annulment request, stating that in Article 4 of the Law No. 1211 on the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the duty of maintaining price stability rests with the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey and that the independence of the Bank has been abolished with the duties and powers given to the Committee.

After the evaluations, the Constitutional Court decided by a majority of votes that the entire Presidential Decree on the Price Stability Committee is unconstitutional in terms of jurisdiction and annulled.

The establishment of the Price Stabilization Committee was decided by the Presidential decree of 30 June 2021.
