President Erdoğan, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy and United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres held a joint press conference after the tripartite summit at the Pototsky Palace.

Starting his speech by greeting Zelenskiy and Guterres, Erdoğan stated that he was very pleased to be in Lviv upon Zelenskiy’s invitation.

Stating that they evaluated all aspects of the strategic partnership level relations between the countries during their bilateral meeting with Zelenskiy, President Erdoğan said: “We discussed the possibilities of improving our cooperation and solidarity under the current conditions. Of course, the war that has been going on for about 6 months has been the main subject of our talks. On this occasion, I once again emphasized our support for its integrity and sovereignty.” used the phrases.

Expressing his deep sadness for the loss of life, Erdoğan continued as follows:

“Last night, I conveyed my condolences on behalf of our country and nation for the missile attack on a country in Kharkiv that killed 9 civilians and injured 35. We expressed our concern about the ongoing conflicts around the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant. We do not want to experience a new Chernobyl. As Turkey, on the one hand While making efforts to end the conflicts with a diplomatic solution, on the other hand, we stood by our Ukrainian friends, and we continue to do so.

Since the beginning of the war, we have sent 98 trucks of humanitarian aid to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the Ukrainian people, and we have temporarily hosted nearly 325,000 Ukrainians in our country. We accepted a total of 1507 people, consisting of 1099 orphans and 408 companions, in our country to host them until the conditions in Ukraine return to normal. In our meeting, we also discussed the dimensions of the physical destruction caused by the war in Ukraine. I shared with Mr. Zelenskiy that we will give the necessary support for the reconstruction of Ukraine, as we have done so far.”

“We exhibited an example of a historical collaborative work”

Stating that the focus of the trilateral meeting held with the participation of United Nations Secretary-General Gutarres is how the war can be ended, President Erdoğan said, “As you know, we, as the United Nations, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey, exhibited a historical example of joint work just one month ago. Ukraine Not only Ukraine, but the whole world began to feel the positive reflections of the Istanbul Agreement, which made possible the safe export of grain to world markets via the Black Sea. said.

Recalling that a total of 25 ships and approximately 625 thousand tons of Ukrainian grain have been delivered to the world market since August 1, when the agreement was put into effect, Erdoğan said:

“In today’s contacts, we focused on the steps that can be taken to increase the activities of the existing mechanism. In our tripartite meeting, we also evaluated the possibilities of transforming the positive atmosphere created by the Istanbul Consensus into permanent peace. We especially pointed out that the international community should take on more responsibility in order to revive the diplomatic process.

Personally, I maintain my belief that the war will ultimately end at the negotiating table. In fact, Mr. Zelenskiy and Guteress agree on this point. The whole point is to identify the shortest and fairest path to the negotiating table. I believe that it is possible to revive the negotiations based on the parameters shaped in Istanbul in March. We are ready to play the role of facilitator or mediator again to provide all kinds of support towards this goal. Of course, in our meeting, we discussed the exchange of prisoners of war and our initiatives in this regard, and I would like to express that we attach great importance to this issue. I believe that those who are following this place right now, ‘I wonder what happened to the exchange of these captives?’ trying to answer the question. We will continue to evaluate the outcome of all our meetings today with Mr. Putin and the Russian side regarding this issue,” he said.

President Erdoğan once again thanked the Ukrainian and Polish authorities for providing all the facilities for his trip to Lviv.
